Week 18 Update 2023

• Jan 13th  Friday VEX IQ Competition @ Roseville (5:30pm to 8pm)
• Jan 15th Sunday VEX V5 Competition Day (7:45am to 5pm)
• Saturday class Jan 21st and Feb 11th
• Fee Payment Due (2nd Installment)

Details

Falkon Academy successfully hosted the region’s first-ever VEX Robotics competition. It was a good learning experience. Our judges have observed that two of the winning non Falkon teams were not student-centered robots, but were created by the parents. Unfortunately, we could not remove them from giving the awards, but robot events organization was informed about it, and they are going to send a warning to their parents.

Meanwhile, all our teams performed fairly well. I think all our teams performed in the same range. The difference between 1st and last teams was not a big gap. There is something called “institutional knowledge” – as the organization gains experience the robots get better. I have already seen this week most of teams have started planning to re-design the robots with buckets – so that they can score more points.

We are thankful to all the judges, volunteers, parents, and kids who made it happen. We are also thankful to Mr. Shoemake and Ms. Terri Daniels for their support. 

VEX IQ Jan 13th Competition

There is a Roseville League coming up on Jan 13th Friday Evening. To be eligible for the finals night (on Feb 3rd), the teams have to attend 2 of the first 3 nights. All the teams except the following three teams can skip Jan 13th, unless you think you make your score higher.

Event Details

• 5.30pm – Doors open, Check-in and Inspection opens
  6:00pm – Matches begin
  8.00pm – Matches conclude

If you think you are attending too many competitions, you can skip Roseville events altogether. Ideally, I wanted teams to attend 3 competitions.
